Built-in Audio Software
If you have a Windows operating system, you can record audio with Sound Recorder.
Sound Recorder records a sound and saves it as an audio file on your computer. You can record sound from different audio devices, such as a microphone that’s plugged into the sound card on your computer. The types of audio input sources you can record from depend on the audio devices you have and the input sources on your sound card.
Before recording, make sure you have an audio input device, such as a built in microphone or an external microphone, connected to your computer. To record a sound, open Sound Recorder - you will find it via the Start Menu, under Accessories. Click the Start Recording button. To stop recording audio, click Stop Recording.
If you want to continue recording audio, click Cancel in the Save As dialog box, and then click Resume Recording. Continue to record sound, and then click Stop Recording.
Click the File name box, type a file name for the recorded sound, and then click Save to save the recorded sound as an audio file.
Remember, to use Sound Recorder, you must have a sound card and speakers installed on your computer. If you want to record sound, you also need a microphone (or other audio input device). You can play the saved audio file on your computer by using a media player program, such as VLC or Windows Media Player.
Built-in Video Software
Most Windows operating systems come packaged with a product called Windows Movie Maker. If you don’t have this, it can be downloaded free of charge from Microsoft.
In order to record video from your computer, click the start button. Select Programs and locate Windows Movie Maker from the list of applications. Run the software.
Once the software is open, select Capture from video device on the left side of the screen under the Capture Video heading.
Follow the on-screen prompts to quickly configure your webcam. Your webcam begins filming and you will be presented with a video screen allowing you to see what is being recorded. Stop the recording by clicking the Stop button on the video screen. You can save the video at any time by pressing Ctrl+S on the keyboard.
