The PlayStation 3 (PS3), initially released in late 2006, was the third video game console produced by Sony and the successor to the PlayStation 2. It competes directly with Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Nintendo’s Wii as part of the seventh generation of video game consoles.
Major features include its online gaming service, the PlayStation Network, multimedia capabilities, connectivity with the PlayStation Portable and the use of Blu-ray Disc as its primary storage medium.
The current model, usually referred to as the “PS3 Slim” is available with a 160 or 320 GB hard drive and can be controlled via the TV remote control. It incorporates a high definition Blu-ray player and is Internet ready with built-in Wi-Fi. It has two USB ports and has HDMI output for 1080p resolution.
