Web conferences, sometimes referred to as webcasts, webinars or online workshops, allow conferences or similar events to be shared with remote locations using Internet technologies. They allow real-time one-to-one communications as well as multicast communications from one sender to many receivers. Text messages, voice and video chat can be shared simultaneously, anywhere in the world. Applications include meetings, training events, lectures, online classes and short presentations.
Most web conferencing systems, such as Skype, require additional software to be downloaded and installed. Many systems have links to email and online calendars to allow users to plan an event and share information about it. Some systems allow events to be recorded and played back later.
