You can download videos from the Internet, although this can sometimes be a slow process. Companies like Amazon let you buy downloadable episodes of popular TV shows – you can store these on your computer and play them as often as you like.
A more popular option is streaming video, which makes it possible to view videos while they are downloading. We’ll look at this in more detail in the next section.
Finally, online videoconferencing, which used to cost a small fortune and require highly-specialised equipment, is now available in the form of Web Conferencing to anyone with a fast internet connection and a cheap webcam.
