iPhone is the name given to a range of smartphones produced by Apple Inc. The first iPhone was released on in June 2007 and the most recent model, the iPhone 5, in October 2012. The iPhone revolutionised the smartphone market.
An iPhone can act as a still or video camera, a portable media player for music or movies and an Internet client which can handle e-mail and web browsing. It can send and receive texts, voice and video calls using either WiFi or 3G mobile phone networks. The user interface is based on a multi-touch screen which can be used to display a virtual keyboard.
Software from Apple and Apple-approved third parties can be downloaded from the Apple App Store, which now offers more than half-a-million Apps, including games, productivity programs, educational programs, GPS navigation, social networking and many others.
The latest model, the iPhone 5 has an 8 megapixel camera which supports high-resolution video recording and face detection. It has an advanced natural language voice control system called Siri and is available with 16, 32 or 64 GB of memory.
