Completing Online Forms

It can become boring filling out web forms with the same information on different occasions. To avoid this problem, Chome’s Autofill feature lets you complete forms with a single click. Other browsers offer similar facilities.

The first time you complete a form, Chrome automatically saves your name, address, phone number, email address etc, as an Autofill entry.

Chrome can also save your credit card information, but only if you give it permission to do so. If you enter credit card information on a form, Chrome will ask if you want to save it. Click Save info if you’d like the credit card to be saved as an Autofill entry.

When you start completing a form, the Autofill entries that match what you’re typing appear in a menu. Selecting an entry automatically completes the form with the correct information.

Chrome also saves the text you’ve entered in each of the form’s fields and next time you fill out the same field, the text that you’ve typed in the past appears in a menu. You can then select the text you want to use and insert it directly into the field.

If you want to see how Chrome will complete a form before it actually fills it out, you can hover over an Autofill entry in the menu with your mouse. The fields that can be automatically completed are highlighted in yellow.

It’s important that you use Autofill only on websites you trust, as certain websites might try to capture your information in hidden or hard-to-see fields.

Autofill is typically turned on by default. You can disable it as follows:

  1. Click the hotdog icon  on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click Show advanced settings and find the Passwords and forms section.
  4. Deselect the Enable Autofill to fill out web forms in a single click checkbox.

You can delete Autofill entries if you no longer require them:

  1. Click the hotdog icon  on the browser toolbar.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Click Show advanced settings and find the Passwords and forms section.
  4. Click Manage Autofill settings.
  5. Select the entry you’d like to delete from the list.
  6. Click the x that appears at the end of the row.
