Search Techniques

Carrying out a search is fairly straight forward – simply type the word or phrase you wish to search for in the Search Box and click on Google Search or press Enter:

This would find all the pages containing the words “operating” or “system”, with the pages containing both words listed first. If you wanted so search only for pages containing the phrase “operating system” you could enclose the phrase in quotes:

If you wanted to search only for pages with references to the Linux operating system, you couldld add +Linux to your query:


This would locate pages which contain the phrase “operating system” and also contain the word “Linux”.

If you wanted to search only for pages with references to operating systems other than Linux, you could add -Linux to your query:


This would locate pages which contain the phrase “operating system” but do not contain the word “Linux”.

Google also offers specialised searches for News, Images and Blogs. Other search engines offer similar facilities.
